5. How did this artist get into photography? What led them to photography?
In third grade, Warhol had a nervous system disease that causes involuntary movements of the extremities. At times when he was confined to bed, he drew, listened to the radio and collected pictures of movie stars around his bed. Warhol’s first contact with a camera was at a young age. He was a 10-year-old child, growing up in Pittsburgh, snapping his first photographs in the backyard of his house. A Brownie camera that his family possessed was basically one of the first tools that Warhol had used to produce something that could later be perceived as artistic.
6. How did this artist get interested in their chosen subject matter?
Andy Warhol used to like turn into art things of your everyday life and related to popular culture, publicity, comics, cinema and television. Warhol painted a lot of celebrities like Marilyn Monroe and Liz Taylor, but also objects, Coca-Cola bottles and cans of Campbell’s soup.
7. What technique(s) did this artist use to give their photos a distinct look?
Most artists used photographs or paintings to make portraits. Warhol painted the photos, and he invented a new way to make portraits. He used short white and black films that he called “screen tests”. He asked the models to sit on a plain background and stay still without even blinking! Then, he projected the films in slow motion.

Andy Warhol created three Marilyn Monroe screen print portfolios in 1967, a few years after the actress passed away in 1962. Andy Warhol was fascinated by the celebrities, he did hundreds of portraits, like Elvis Presley, Jackeline Kennedy, Liz Taylor, etc.
Warhol’s Campbell’s Soup Cans consist of thirty-two canvases, one of each of the 32 varieties offered by the company at the time. When this first came out, a lot of people asked, “Is this art?”. In that same year, Warhol put on his first individual art exhibition. At the end of the year, it is the work art that led to pop art becoming a major art movement in the USA.
10. What impact do you think these photographs had on the world of photography? Why?
Andy Warhol is one of the most famous artist in the world. During the ’70s, Pop Artists used to transform everyday things into art. Andy Warhol photographed celebrities and simple objects. He also made films and founded a magazine called Interview. His artworks and ideas inspired artist all over the world. He stirred up the world with his special way to see and create.

12. In your own words, why did you choose this photographer?
I’ve always been interested in Andy Warhol. When my parents bought the book for my sister and me, I was like 10 years, I saw all the photos and I was so fascinated because I had never seen Pop Art.
One year ago more or less, I read again the book and I liked it even more because I could understand everything. So when I was looking at the list to choose the photographer and I saw Andy Warhol, I thought that it was a good opportunity to know a little bit more about him.
